Wasatch County Health Department has announced a positive test result of COVID-19 for a student at Wasatch High School. It also appears to be transmitted locally, known as “community spread.”

State agencies and partners were on hand as 25 Utahns arrived back in Utah after an ordeal that started as a cruise and ended with a weeklong quarantine in two states. The 23 Utahns arrived from Dobbins Air Force Base in Georgia on Sunday evening. None are showing symptoms of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and have either tested negative or are awaiting test results.

Salt Lake County Announces New Confirmed Cases

The Salt Lake County Health Department announced Saturday that an additional nine county residents have COVID-19, bringing the total cases to 14 in the county. All new cases are linked to travel or household contact with another confirmed case. County health officials don’t believe any of the cases are a result of local transmission.

New Case of COVID-19 in Summit County Signals Community Spread

The Utah Department of Health (UDOH) and the Summit County Health Department (SCHD) today announced a new case of COVID-19 that is the first instance of community spread of the disease in Utah. Community spread means spread of an illness for which the source of infection is unknown.

What is community spread?

Community spread happens when a person is infected with COVID-19 but has not recently traveled or had known contact with another infected person. Limiting community spread depends on everybody taking precautionary measures.

Utah’s public schools dismissed for two weeks (Updated)

Gov. Gary R. Herbert announced today that Utah’s public schools will implement a two-week dismissal, or “soft closure,” starting Monday, March 16. The dismissal is designed to help implement social distancing and slow the spread of novel coronavirus in our communities.
