Big changes coming to COVID-19 testing
(Salt Lake City, UT)—As the state of Utah transitions to a Steady State response to the pandemic, the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) will transition to a more long-term, sustainable response. Many UDOH-sponsored testing sites are closing permanently and some will transition to private, for-profit vendors.
Visit https://coronavirus.utah.gov/utah-covid-19-testing-locations/ before visiting a testing site for the most up-to-date information on operating hours, types of tests offered at each site, associated costs, who may be tested at the site, etc. If you’re looking for a specific type of test for travel requirements, you can search by test type at https://coronavirus.utah.gov/utah-covid-19-testing-locations/. The Utah Department of Health will no longer offer travel testing after March 31, 2022.
Testing is still an important tool for many Utahns who may benefit from treatments. Those who should continue to get tested include:
- Those with significant underlying conditions. Getting tested gives these people who test positive a chance to be considered for treatments like monoclonal antibodies or antiviral pills. Learn more at https://coronavirus.utah.gov/treatments or talk to your doctor.
- If you’re going to visit someone who is vulnerable (for example people over 75 years, immunocompromised, receiving immunosuppressive medication)
- If you’ve been sick but are getting better and want to confirm you are negative
- If you’re traveling somewhere that requires a negative test
- Elderly
- Those who work with vulnerable populations:
- Healthcare workers
- Long-term care facility employees
- People living or working in congregate settings including prisons and homeless shelters
